Army rescues 1.7k tourists stranded in Sikkim

Nearly 1,700 tourists from various parts of the country, including West Bengal, had to be rescued by the Army in Sikkim while they were returning from the Nathu La–Tsomgo Lake circuit on Friday evening. The tourists, travelling in nearly 300 taxis, got stranded at various locations along Jawaharlal Nehru Road between 13th Mile and Nathu La due to heavy snowfall. The soldiers risked their lives to rescue the stranded tourists and also shared meals and accommodation for the night.
