KMC rids south Kolkata of overhead mess

Cable TV and broadband wires that had been creating a mess were snapped by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation across several neighbourhoods in Bhowanipore on Sunday. The move, which led to a blackout of TV screens, came after mayor Firhad Hakim asked cable operators to remove all dead cables last month. Cable operators had responded by saying it was too short a time to identify dead cables, most of which were defunct wires mounted by telecom companies. More than 200kg of wires were removed over three hours.
