Kolkata: Mamata fumes over soaring onion prices

Ten onion-laden trucks, seven of them from Nashik, arrived at Koley Market on Monday. During a surprise visit to Jadubabu’s Bazar, CM Mamata Baneerjee expressed her anger at the astronomical rise in onion price and hinted at strong action against hoarding. The network for sale of subsidized onion has widened significantly as ration shops have started selling the vegetable. Consumers are expected the reap the benefit as onion prices are likely to drop due to the combined effect of these developments.
