
While the price of onion continues to soar at Rs 140 a kg, potato, too, has been heavy on the pocket for some weeks now. The average price of the jyoti variety of potato in city markets stands at Rs 27 while chandramukhi soars at Rs 30 per kg. Traders blame it on increased demand for potato with traditional winter vegetables in short supply with last month’s cyclone Bulbul destroying vast stages of crop lands. Off late, fingers have also been pointed at violent agitators stopping disrupting supply from Punjab and UP.
