Turkish onions spark interest across markets

Shallots imported from Turkey hit a few markets in Kolkata on Friday and immediately created a stir among customers wary of buying the mini-sized onions currently available. Nearly four times the size of onions from Nashik that are on sale and around 8-10 times their weight, the ‘Turkish onions’ were lapped up in bulk by restaurants and caterers.
